THE POSTMASTER’S RESIDENCE DATES BACK TO THE EARLY 1900S AND IS REGARDED AS HAVING LOCAL AND STATE SIGNIFICANCE.
IT HAS BEEN THE CENTRE OF THE TOWNSHIP’S COMMUNICATIONS WITHOUT INTERRUPTION FOR OVER 100 YEARS.

WE ARE PROUD THAT AFTER OUR REFURBISHMENTS IT REMAINS MUCH AS IT WAS ORIGINALLY CONSTRUCTED.
A unique place
THE POSTMASTER’S IS A RARE EXAMPLE OF A TIMBER POST OFFICE BUILDING IN TASMANIA THAT HAS SURVIVED FROM THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY WITH LITTLE MODIFICATION AND STILL WITH THE SAME USE.

THE NEW POSTMASTER’S APARTMENT IS LOCATED IN THE ORIGINAL MAIL SORTING ROOM ON THE GROUND FLOOR AND HAS BEEN DESIGNED SO AS TO KEEP THE ORIGINAL SHAPE AND FEATURES OF THE MAIL ROOM PLINTH.

BACK WHEN POSTAL AND TELECOM SERVICES WERE ALL PART OF THE POSTMASTERS GENERAL DEPARTMENT ‘THE SHED’ WAS IN FACT JUST A SHED SERVING AS THE LOCAL DEPOT FOR MEN WORKING ON PHONE AND TELEGRAPH LINES IN THE REGION.
THE ORIGINAL STREET WALLS HAVE BEEN RETAINED.
